Man charged with possession, told police he was ‘undercover’

An Allentown man who told Tamaqua police that his work station was based on another planet was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and public drunkenness.

According to police, officers were called to the area of 800 E. Broad St. at 1:10 p.m. May 16 for a report of a wandering man.

Officers spotted the man, James Norwood Jr., 47, who said he was looking for his wife and a friend after they jumped from a vehicle. Police said he identified himself as an undercover employee of the “Delta Marshals.” He told police the organization is similar to the U.S. Marshals, only it is under the authority of NASA and that the base for his unit is on another planet. Police said he told them he was staying in Lansford because he was working undercover.

Police said Norwood was sweating excessively and showed signs of methamphetamine intoxication.

Officers said they found a small bag of methamphetamine in Norwood’s pocket. He told police that it was his, and that he was allowed to have it because he was working undercover.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 28 before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua.
