Walters, O’Connor seeded high in 2 events

This weekend’s PIAA Track and Field Championships will close out a stellar spring for a number of area athletes.

Palmerton’s Nataly Walters, who made it to Shippensburg in four Class 2A individual events, is seeded fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. The freshman will also be competing in the 100 (21st) and 200 (20th).

Teammate Ana Recker also earned a top-eight seed in the pole vault. Recker, who qualified for states for the second year in a row as the district champion, is seeded seventh.

In Class 3A, Jim Thorpe’s Kaila O’Connor is seeded in the top eight in two events. The sophomore is seeded fourth in the 200, and sixth in the 100.

O’Connor won both events last week at districts.

Northwestern’s Faith Yost is the fourth seed in the Class 3A high jump. The junior is also seeded 12th in the 100 hurdles.

She won district titles in both events a week ago.

After a disappointing finish in the discus earlier in the day, Meckes bounced back with a throw of 129-6 to finish fifth in the javelin. Wallace ran to an eighth- place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.73 for her second-career medal in the event. She was sixth in Class 2A in 2019. Marian’s Mike Fellin ran to a second-place finish in the Class 2A 100 a year ago with a time of 10.85. It wasn’t the only medal of the day for Fellin, who teamed up with Jacob Fenstermaker, Ean Chelak and Johnny Malarkey to place seventh in the 400 relay with a time of 43.90 a week after winning the district title in the event.
