Zion Lewistown

Zion Men will meet at Memorial Hall at 8 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Zion Church will join the Calvary Methodist Church at 10:25 a.m. for a combined Memorial Day service.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. combined service with Zion, Lewistown, with Pastor Jim Williams bringing the message this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. There is no Sunday evening service this week. June 1 prayer meeting at 7 p.m.

Upcoming events: Graduates will be honored at the 10:25 a.m. service June 6; concert with Christian comedian Tim Lovelace, June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle; June 12, Bobby Oravitz, child evangelism summer missionary will be sharing the morning message at the 10:25 a.m. service.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers met on May 23 with 22 members in attendance. President Diane Gould opened the meeting with the reading “Be Grateful.”

New members Lenora Lakata and Felicia Pilla were given a warm welcome. There is a trip planned to Mount Airy Casino on Aug. 2.

The group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 1 p.m. at the St. Ann Senior Apartments in Lansford. Any 55 and older is invited to attend.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on May 19 with 20 members in attendance. Vice President Mary Bittle opened the meeting with the reading “A Home in my Heart.” A moment of silence was observed in memory of Dolores Neifert.

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Tamaqua Summer Library Programs

Summer Story Time: Ages 0-5, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 10 a.m. Choose which day to attend;

Ages 6-12; a six week program beginning June 20, 3-4:30 p.m. or 6-7:30 p.m.; Teen Program starting June 17, every other week thereafter.

St. Peter’s West Penn

May 29: 9 a.m. worship service; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; 11 a.m. Memorial Day Service at St. Peter’s; no Confirmation Class.

May 31: 6 p.m. Bible Study; June 3: 7 p.m. encore performance of “Summer in Cricket County” (no meal served - freewill offering)

June 5: 9 a.m. worship service - Celebration of Holy Communion; Confirmation; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; 10:30 a.m. Church Board meeting; 6 p.m. Girl Scouts.

Memorial Day Parade

Tamaqua’s Annual Memorial Day Parade will once again be hosted by the American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173 on May 30 at 10 a.m. Staging will begin at 9 a.m. by the old Maff Motors Building on East Broad Street.

The American Legion Honor Guard will fire a volley over the War Memorial.

This year’s grand marshal is Karl Smulligan, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and Pennsylvania National Guard who honorably served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. Miss Layluh Greitz, 6, is this year’s Poppy Queen and is a Jr. ALA member.

There will be a memorial service at the Odd Fellows Cemetery after the parade and at the American Legion Post 173 following the service. Any group or organizations that would like to participate in the parade can call David Meredith at 570-668-3356.

American Primitive

Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua.

There will be no Sunday school until further notice. Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St.
