State police at Schuylkill Haven
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:53 a.m. on May 7 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Kaylen P. Brown, 20, of Pottsville, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Accent southbound and negotiating a left hand curve when the vehicle drove over standing water on the road. The vehicle then struck a concrete divider, coming to final rest along the west shoulder.
Brown was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.
• Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:40 a.m. on March 26 along Route 183 in Wayne Township in which the driver is facing a driving under the influence charge. Troopers said Duane E. Edmundson, 56, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Guide motorcycle southbound when the bike went onto the shoulder, then back onto the road, before Edmundson put the bike down on its left side. The bike slid on its left side across both lanes, coming to rest on the east side fog line.
Edmundson and his passenger, Barbara A. Edmundson, 56, suffered injuries but were apparently treated at the scene by medical personnel. Troopers noted both were using helmets improperly.
Edmundson was cited for DUI.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 8:23 p.m. on May 9 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Tung T. Phung, 51, of St. Clair, was driving a 2022 Toyota Sienna northbound while Jack D. Rose, 25, of Port Carbon, driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck, was in the jug handle entering onto West Market Street. Phung failed to stop at a steady red light and his vehicle struck Rose’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 5:47 p.m. on May 13 along Route 895 in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Linda N. Potts, 50, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze northbound and came to a stop to make a left turn. Joshua D. Cawthern, 33, of Bernville, Berks County, was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat behind Potts, did not stop in time and rear-ended the Cruze.
No injuries were reported.
Cawthern was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:38 a.m. on May 23 along Route 61 in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Helena M. Hughes, 80, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta while Robert A. Teijaro, 58, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 truck was behind him, both southbound. Hughes attempted to make a left turn to enter the adjoining lane when she realized she was at the wrong road. She attempted to re-enter the driving lane when her vehicle was struck by Teijaro’s truck.
Neither driver was injured but a passenger with Hughes, Kenneth S. Angst, 61, of Schuylkill Haven, sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg. The Jetta was towed. Hughes was cited for the crash.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:01 a.m. on May 16 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Caryn D. Kline, 43, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan northbound when a deer entered the road in front of her and she was unable to avoid hitting it. The vehicle was towed.
