State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes:
• Troopers said Christopher T. Ritter, 54, of Lehighton, was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 westbound at 9:09 p.m. on May 17 along Route 940 in Penn Forest Township. When he approached Dotters Lane, a bear entered the road on front of him and he was unable to avoid it.
Ritter was not injured but the truck had to be towed.
• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 7:26 a.m. on May 16 along Route 715 in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Jeremy D. Smith, 28, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 truck northbound and crossed over into the other lane. The vehicle left the right side of the road as Smith tried to regain control but failed.
The truck crossed the double yellow line and entered the oncoming lane, then left the road and hit a utility pole before coming to rest in a roadside drainage ditch.
Smith was evaluated at the scene but refused to be transported to a hospital. The vehicle was towed and Smith was cited.
