May 26, 1971 - Marian’s dreams of a Hughie McGeehan title are spolied by Joe Maddon, who throws a no-hitter at the Colts to lead Hazleton to an 11-0 victory and the championship. Maddon, who is currently the manager of the Los Angeles Angels and led the Chicago Cubs to a World Series title in 2016, strikes out four and walks just one in his seven innings of work in a game played at Tamaqua. The only Marian players to reach base are Leo O’Donnell, on the walk, and Jack Barrett, on an error. Maddon also helps his own cause with an RBI single.
