Silfies on Landmark All-Star team

Zach Silfies, a graduate of Palmerton, was recently named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team baseball all-star squad.

A junior for Elizabethtown College, Silfies made the team as a relief pitcher.

The former Blue Bomber earned his first all-conference selection after morphing into one of the most dominant relief pitchers in the Landmark Conference this season. Silfies was tied for fourth in the Landmark in saves (3), fifth in ERA (3.43) and 10th in strikeouts (45). He appeared in 22 games, pitching 42 innings. He allowed 38 hits, 14 walks and 16 earned runs to go along with his 45 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .238 against him.

His most recent save was the most memorable, striking out four batters, including the final three outs, to close out Elizabethtown’s Landmark Conference Championship win against Susquehanna.

Over his last eight games, he has given up just five hits and two earned runs in 12 1/3 innings (1.46 ERA) while striking out 13.

The Blue Jays entered the Division 3 Regional Championships with a 22-20 record. Elizabethtown dropped an 8-2 contest to Oswego State in the opening round on Friday and were scheduled to take on Husson this morning.
