South leads Carbon Senior Games after first day

With one day of competition complete, South Carbon County seniors are leading during the 2022 Carbon County Senior Games with a combined score of 163.

But who will capture the Commissioners’ Cup? Will it be returning champions North Carbon County, which is made up of Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly, or will the title go back to the South, which consists of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors? Only time will tell.

Senior Games officials report that Panther Valley has 17; Jim Thorpe, 46; and Weatherly, 6, bringing the combined team’s score to 69; while Lehighton’s score for the day is 87 and Palmerton has a score of 76.

With only one day of competition complete, it’s anybody’s guess who will be this year’s top dog.

The first-day events included cornhole toss and a new game, ladder ball.

A point system is attached to each medal. Gold represents five points; silver, three points; and bronze, one point.

Today’s events include basketball shoot and darts.
