A section of the D & L Trail in Jim Thorpe was closed for improvements.
The trail has been closed at the northern end of the county parking lot, directly below the Sgt. AJ Baddick Memorial Bridge (Route 903).
The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor advised trail users to avoid the area through today, and heed trail closed signs. Bad weather could delay the project.
The project is intended to improve drainage along a 950-foot section of the trail located north and south of the Route 903 bridge. The area is located along to the recently paved ‘overflow’ lot in the county parking lot. The trail work is being done by the contractor for the paving project, Graver Industries.
The newly-paved section of the parking lot will add more than 20 parking spaces once it is lined.
“It is not enough to really impact the parking challenges we have here, but it’s definitely going to provide more parking,” said Chris Lukasevich, Carbon County Commissioner.
The $876,386.32 paving contract also included work at Mauch Chunk Lake Park and Carbon County Correctional Facility.
