Cranberry Quilt Guild has meeting, membership drive

The Cranberry Quilt Guild will hold its May meeting on May 23, with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Meetings are held at Faith United Church of Christ fellowship hall off the Hazleton airport beltway. Current members are encouraged to bring a friend with interest to the May meeting. A drawing will be held for those who bring a friend.

April’s meeting offered a quilters auction. Members contributed quilting articles they don’t use for a fun opportunity to purchase for a nominal fee. This has become an annual event which everyone enjoys, and the proceeds benefit the guild’s many community service projects. During the meeting members also presented their UFO projects.

This allows for a member to concentrate on finishing a quilted project that may be on the back burner. Each month a different number on the UFO list will be highlighted.

Another new highlight for the monthly meeting is a spotlight on a fabric designer. April’s designer was Kaffe Fassett.

The designer’s background was researched and quilts using those fabrics were highlighted.

The designer for May will be Lewis and Irene. Any member wishing to highlight a specific designer is welcome to do so.

The program for the May meeting will consist of a trunk show hosted by longtime member Wanda Burchie. Burchie will display her works of art and techniques for all to enjoy.

Plans also continue for the quilt show, being held on Sept. 17 and 18 at the Weatherly Middle school.

Membership drive

The Cranberry Quilters will be hosting a membership drive beginning May 8 and running through May 23, which is the date of the group’s May meeting.

Being a local quilt guild for many years, the group offers enjoyment and information on many types of quilting from basic beginning skills, to hand and applique technique, and modern quilting styles.

New members need not be proficient in any quilting style or specific sewing talent.

The year is filled with interesting projects, an upcoming quilt show extravaganza, and speakers that engage with the group on all levels. Anyone, new or existing and bringing a friend wishing to join in the membership drive, can email their name and phone number to cranberryquilters@gmail.com showing interest or call Deb Kessell, president for additional information at 570-436-1469.

A guild representative will contact them in response with meeting details.

The group meets March through November on the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Faith United Church of Christ, off the Hazleton Beltway in Hazle Township.
