Nellie Balliet, Lehighton, formally assumed the position of chairperson of the Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services on Wednesday, presiding over its monthly meeting.

A dental assistant, she succeeds Michael J. Slivka, Jim Thorpe, who retired after completing 10 years of service on the board.

Joining Balliet as officers are Samuel Dolgopol, Lehighton, first vice president; Dana Beisel, Palmerton, second vice president; Mary Llewellyn, Summit Hill, secretary; and Pauline Lorchak, Jim Thorpe, treasurer.

Named to membership on the board were Dean D.W. DeLong, Mahoning Township, and Eugene O’Donnell, Lansford, representing elected officers of the county, and Richard Letcher, representing industry.
