– The Tamaqua boys sweep all three relay races at the District 11 Class 2A championships at Pottsville. The 400 relay squad of Jon Hafer, Daryl Kohut, Noel Powell and Corey Mueller finishes first in 44.0 seconds, while Hafer and Mueller team with Andy Hoffman and Brian Angst to capture the 1600 race in 3:33.4. Hafer and Hoffman are also part of the 3200 relay foursome, along with Mike Johnson and Tom Mace, that takes gold in a time of 8:21.3. Northwestern’s Bruce Kite wins two individual events (1600, 3200), while teammate Alan Czysz (400), Panther Valley’s Brian Williams (javelin) and Marian’s Scott Holloman (high jump) also earn gold medals.
