Lehighton split its action on the diamond Friday. The Indian baseball team edged Panther Valley, while the softball squad fell to Lourdes.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Lehighton closed its season on a winning note, posting a 4-2 non-league win over Panther Valley.

Tyler Poole had three hits and knocked in a run for the Indians, who broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs.

The Tribe (9-11) also received two hits and a run from both Michael Yeakel and Austin Greene, while Brady O’Donnell added two runs and two RBIs.

Carter Birbaum pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief to earn the victory.

For the Panthers, now 15-5, Cody Orsulak hit a solo homer and Matt Engler chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Hayden Goida also contributed a double and a run.

SOFTBALL

Lehighton-Lourdes

Tori DeFrancesco’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning chased home the winning run as Lourdes gained a 4-3 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Maddyn McHugh reached on an error and stole third. After two intentional walks loaded the bases, DeFrancesco’s fly to center ended the game.

Maggie Pagotto had a pair of hits, one a triple, and scored a run for the Indians - who battled back from an early 3-0 deficit. The Tribe also received two hits and an RBI from Eryn Mertz, while Mia Snyder added a double, a run and an RBI.

McHugh finished with three hits for Lourdes, who improved to 7-11 overall and 4-10 in the league.

The Indians ended the regular season with a 6-14 record, including a league mark of 3-11.
