Local Roundup: Results from May 12

Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both rallied to pick up non-league baseball wins on Thursday.

The Olympians came back to defeat Shenandoah Valley, while the Raiders scored late to down Mount Carmel.

BASEBALL

Shenandoah-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe used a four-run sixth inning to pull out a 6-3 non-league victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Trailing by a run, Garrett Lienhard worked a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to tie the score. One out later, free passes to James Lordi and Matthew Craigie gave the Olympians a 5-3 advantage. Thorpe tacked on one more run when Jack Edwards was hit by a pitch.

Lawrence Baldassano led the Olympians with two hits and two runs, while Drew Wimmer added a pair of hits and a run. Edwards finished the contest with two RBIs.

For the Devils, Brayden Maksimik collected three runs and scored twice.

The win lifts Thorpe to 10-9, while Shenandoah drops to 13-7.

Mount Carmel-Tamaqua

Tamaqua exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 12-8 non-league victory over Mount Carmel.

All nine runs for the Blue Raiders, who trailed 7-3 at the time, came with two outs.

Lucas Kamant and Luke Kane had RBI singles to help trim the deficit to 7-6 before a two-run single from Lucas Milot gave Tamaqua the lead. Chase Andrews made it 9-7 with a run-scoring single, while Tommy Case followed with a hit to bring home two more runs. Kamant capped the big frame with another RBI hit.

Kamant and Andrews both finished with three hits. Milot and Mason Ligenza each contributed two, with Ligenza also knocking in a pair of runs.

The Blue Raiders improved to 3-14 with the win.

SOFTBALL

Hamburg-Tamaqua

Hailey Strunk pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Hamburg to an 8-0 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

Strunk, who also hit a solo home run in the contest, walked two and struck out seven.

The homer by Strunk gave the Hawks a 1-0 advantage in the first, and that score stood until the sixth when the visitors added three more runs.

Katie Behler had four hits, including two doubles, scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs.

Addison Krall and Kolbe Robb accounted for the Raiders’ hits.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 8-12. Hamburg upped its mark to 14-3.
