Local Roundup: Results from May 10

Northern Lehigh posted wins in both baseball and softball action on Tuesday, while Pleasant Valley’s Kailynn Getz tossed a four-inning no-hitter.

Also recording victories were the Weatherly and Northwestern softball teams.

BASEBALL

No. Lehigh-Moravian

Northern Lehigh ended its season on a positive note, gaining a 4-3 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy in 11 innings.

The Bulldogs’ Tyler Fenstermaker, who reached base on an error, also scored on a miscue in the top of the 11th to give his team the lead.

In the bottom half, an error, walk and hit batter loaded the bases, but the Lions failed to score when Fenstermaker got Gabriel Borsuk to pop up for the final out.

Josh Kistler paced the Northern Lehigh attack with three hits, while Cole Hausman added a pair of hits - one a double - and an RBI. Reese Lipsky also reached base four times on two hits and a pair of walks.

Connor Simms earned the win, pitching four innings in relief of Nick Buskirk. Simms allowed just two hits and an unearned run while striking out three. Buskirk fanned eight in his 6 2/3 innings of work.

The Bulldogs finished the year with a 2-18 record, including a 2-16 mark in the league. The Lions slipped to 4-15 and 3-15.

SOFTBALL

Marian-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley’s Kailynn Getz pitched a four-inning no-hitter and the Bears’ offense had a huge first inning in a 15-0 non-league victory over Marian.

Getz didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven in her milestone performance.

PV plated eight runs in the home first and kept adding on after that. Lydia Borger paced the Bears with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Danica Getz added a pair of hits, one a double, and scored three runs, while Sam Ratti contributed two hits and two RBIs. The winners also received a triple and two runs from Jovie Valenzuela.

Pleasant Valley ended regular season play with an 11-9 record, having won four of its final five games. The Fillies, the Schuylkill Division 3 champs, had their seven-game win streak snapped and dropped to 14-5.

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Weatherly fell behind early, but quickly recovered to post a 9-4 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

PV jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, but the Wreckers countered with two in the bottom half and then put up a five-spot in the second to go ahead.

The Panthers’ Elizabeth Rex delivered a two-run triple in the top of the first, while Lucy Greco added an RBI single.

Weatherly pitcher Madyson vonFrisch settled down after that and pitched six scoreless innings to close the game. vonFrisch finished the contest with 14 strikeouts and no walks.

Anna Bloom had two hits for the winners and also scored a pair of runs. Juliette Bartel added a hit and two runs, as did Raynessa Diaz.

For PV, Rex had two triples. Greco and Mikayla Yuricheck both chipped in with two hits and a run.

The win boosted Weatherly’s record to 6-10 overall and 3-9 in the league. The Panthers fell to 3-16 and 1-11.

So. Lehigh-N’western

Northwestern’s Brynn Balliet pitched a three-hitter to lead her team to a 5-1 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Marissa Christman gave the Tigers an early 2-0 advantage with a homer in the first inning.

The winners tacked on three more runs in the sixth after the Spartans had cut the deficit to one on a solo homer by Kaley Hoffman. In that sixth, Northwestern received RBI hits from both Quinn Conrey and Olivia Stofflet.

Sage Toman also collected a pair of hits for Northwestern, which closed regular-season play with a 15-3 overall record and a 14-2 mark in the league.

The Tigers, champs of the Western Division, will be the top seed in the upcoming Colonial playoffs.

Northern Lehigh ended the regular season on a five-game winning streak after outscoring Southern Lehigh 12-9 in a Colonial League contest.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed, constantly adding on after the Spartans would close the gap.

Kaitlyn Stock had two hits and knocked in three runs for Nolehi, while Hayley Thoder added a pair of hits - one a double - and two RBIs.

The winners also received a pair of hits, one a double, and three runs from Arabella Heintzelman. Jordyn Hemingway and Skyeler Horack both chipped in with two hits, with Hemingway also scoring twice.

The Bulldogs will enter the postseason with a 13-7 overall record, and finished Colonial League play with a mark of 10-6.
