Homeless man damages ambulance, office

A homeless man has been charged after he assaulted a man and damaged an ambulance.

At 9:31 p.m. April 22, troopers from The Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks were called to a home in Ross Township to investigate an assault.

The resident said James Woolley, 43, who is homeless, was working on his van at the residence for a couple of hours.

The resident said that during this time, Woolley broke the back window of the van and then came down to the victim’s residence between 7-7:30 p.m.

He said he answered the door and told Woolley not to come to the house because his father-in-law was sleeping.

Woolley then went back to his van and the victim eventually went up to the van and apologized to Woolley for freaking out on him.

Woolley began freaking out about his wife and then threw an object at him, causing him to lose consciousness and knocking out his tooth.

When the man regained consciousness, he jumped up and hit Woolley, and then Woolley began hitting the van with a metal pipe, smashing the windows and denting the metal, before running down the road.

Woolley scattered trash around the van.

At 9:38 p.m. troopers arrived with Wind Gap EMS and contacted Woolley on Lake View Drive. Woolley had a staggered gait as he approached troopers, and said he was staying on his property in his van when the victim began yelling at him because the victim’s father-in-law was sleeping, but then apologized to Woolley.

Woolley said that the victim told him to get his belongings off his property and to leave. Woolley said that the victim hit him, and he fell.

Woolley said that he picked up a rock, threw it, and then ran to several houses looking for someone to help him.

Woolley said that he smashed out the back window of the van the other night, but the victim smashed all the other windows.

Woolley bounced his head and began making threats to continue to harm himself, but troopers were able to calm him and attempted to escort him to the Wind Gap Ambulance.

Substantial damage was caused to the window and window frame of the Wind Gap Ambulance.

Troopers were subsequently exposed to Woolley’s blood and fragments of glass, but he continued to be uncooperative with troopers and had to be sedated by the paramedics in order to safely transport him to Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospital.

The Wind Gap Ambulance was taken out of service until repairs could be made.

Woolley faces charges on two counts of disorderly conduct; and one count each of aggravated assault; simple assault; recklessly endangering another person; criminal mischief; scatter rubbish upon land; and harassment.

He is incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $10,000 monetary bail. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville at a date yet to be determined.

State police at Lehighton later charged Woolley when he was at the office of District Judge Colleen Mancuso, located at Route 209 and Shafer Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, for a preliminary hearing.

During a consultation with his attorney, Woolley became enraged and hit his head through a wall, causing damages to the drywall. He was charged with criminal mischief of an institution. Damages to the wall were estimated at $200.
