2022 primary election: Carbon voters will elect committee members
Midterm elections nationally and balloting for Pennsylvania’s governorship happen every four years and also signal to Democratic and Republican officials locally that it is also a time for balloting for committeeships in the various precincts for both parties.
In Carbon County, that means voters in each party will participate in at-large voting in the 51 precincts to elect people to the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee and the Pennsylvania State Republican Committee.
The Republican Party also elects two people from Carbon County to its state committee. There are two candidates, Joseph Steber and Timm Berger.
The Democratic Party elects one person from the county to its state committee, however, no one is seeking that position.
Meanwhile, voters in each precinct will elect people to serve on their county committees. The Democratic Party bylaws call for voters in each of those districts to elect one committeeman and one committeewoman in each district, whereas the GOP bylaws are different in that they call for the election of a designated number of committee members by boroughs or townships.
Nonetheless, here are the candidates that will appear on the respective ballots in the county:

Bowmanstown: Ben Price and Kara Scott.
East Penn Township: Mary Coover and Albert J. Holzman, both in District 7.
Franklin Township: Dianna E. Ahner, District 13.
Jim Thorpe: Ronald Sheehan, District 18.
Lower Towamensing Township: Nanette E. Smith, District 33.
Mahoning Township: Kerry Palumbo, District 35.
Towamensing Township: Linda Christman, District 56, Michael George, District 57-1.
Nesquehoning: Patrick J. Owens, District 42.
Palmerton: Alyson Nicole Krawchuk, District 48, and Deborah Smith, District 49.
Summit Hill: Elizabeth A. “Beth” Halenar and Nathan Halenar, District 52; Dolores McAndrew and Justin O’Gurek, District 53; and Tatum O’Brien and William J. O’Gurek Jr., District 54.
There are no Democratic candidates in Beaver Meadows Borough, East Side Borough, Kidder Township, Lansford Borough, Lausanne Township, Lehigh Township, Lehighton Borough, Packer Township, Parryville Borough, Penn Forest Township, Weatherly Borough and Weissport Borough, nor the municipalities in which there are candidate but those that have more than one election district.
