A vehicle caught fire in Carbon County on May 1 at 5:42 p.m.

State police at Lehighton said Jerome H. Burns, 23, of Easton, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra northbound on Canal Street in Franklin Township, when smoke started to come out from the engine area. Burns pulled to the side of the road into a parking lot and exited the vehicle. Fire then emerged from the engine area. The Franklin Township Fire Company responded to extinguish the fire. Burns was not injured. The vehicle was towed.
