Resident complains about noise from excessive number of wind chimes

By their very nature, wind chimes can produce a calming effect.

That is, until too many accumulate and become a nuisance, as explained to Lehighton Borough Council on Monday.

Resident Ashley Exner, who resides in the 300 block of South Second Street, told council she and her family are at their wits’ end.

Exner said she has been a borough resident her entire life, including a homeowner for the past 15 years,

However, she said a neighboring renter has about 30 wind chimes, which has impacted her family’s quality of life.

Exner referred to the situation as a “growing insanity.”

“I researched the ordinance,” Exner said. “This might fall under the noise ordinance.”

Exner said the noise level reaches over 55 decibels, and with the wind, goes up to 70 decibels.

She said it’s “devastating,” and has affected her families ability to enjoy their yard, patio and home.

Exner then pleaded with council to attempt to regulate the noise.

Council recommended that Exner reach out to the borough’s zoning officer.
