Shipman’s Pharmacy acknowledged for years of service to community

A venerable business in Palmerton has been recognized for its decades of outstanding service to the community.

Borough council on Thursday presented a resolution to Shipman’s Pharmacy for its commitment and dedication to the borough.

Council President Terry Costenbader noted that Frank and MaryLou Shipman moved to the borough from Harrington Park, New Jersey, in 1972 to carry on the small-town pharmacy services of the former Teeter’s Drug Store.”

“Working together, Frank and MaryLou had a goal to serve the community,” Costenbader said. “They were rewarded with customer friendships, and a strong customer base that sustained the pharmacy through modern changes, such as development of chain pharmacies and mail order prescriptions.

“After their passing, the family-owned business continued on with daughter Pamela, and then son David, until David’s passing in February 2022. This unique type of business plays a vital role in any town’s development and growth.”

Costenbader said council wanted to recognize the 50 years of service that Shipman’s Pharmacy provided to the borough, and thanked them for helping to make Palmerton “A Nice Place to Live.”

Frank Shipman, son of Frank and MaryLou Shipman, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the business.
