Palmerton will apply for a grant to improve the basketball court next to Elmer Valo Baseball Field on South Third Street.
Borough council on Thursday applied for a grant to the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau in the amount of $10,854.
Borough Manager Donna McGarry said that is the total grant application, for which the borough’s share would be 50%, or $5,427.
McGarry said the work to be done includes repairing the existing fencing along the east side, increasing the fence height on the north side, sealing of existing cracks, asphalt coating of the entire court area, lining of the court, and installation of new backboards.
Last month, council said it was applying for a grant to the PMVB to improve the entrance to town.
McGarry said at that time it would include the planting of grass, perennial flowers, flowering shrubbery and an additional bed with a tree and shrubbery.
The entrance to town project would be $4,630, and is a 50-50 grant, meaning it would cost the borough $2,315.
