Carbon County court — DUI

A total of 21 defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic accepted pleas from the following:

Two cases

Beth Ann Hosier, 38, of Nesquehoning, entered pleas in two pending cases to two counts each of DUI and one count each of driving under suspension-DUI related, driving under suspension and a possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on the first charge on Jan. 8, 2021, by state police at Lehighton and the second on June 23, 2021, also by state police at Lehighton, both for DUI of a controlled substance. In both stops she refused to submit to testing.

Sentencing was deferred and the adult probation office was ordered to prepare a presentence investigation report.

Joel T. Vermillion, 32, of Tamaqua, pleaded in two pending cases to two counts of DUI of controlled substance. He was arrested on Nov. 26, 2021, by state police at Lehighton and on Dec. 13, 2021, also by state police at Lehighton.

Vermillion was recently sentenced in Schuylkill County to serve 5 to 10 years in a state correctional institution on a drug charge.

On the first count Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year. On the second count he was sentenced to serve one to five years in a state prison, pay a fine of $1,500 and license suspended for 18 months. The terms run concurrent with his Schuylkill sentence.

Brett Reeser, 21, of Lehighton, enters pleas in two pending cases to two counts of DUI of a controlled substance. A third case involving a DUI charge was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

He was arrested on Jan. 23, 2019, by Lehighton police. In that case a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped in a plea deal. The second arrest occurred on March 30, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for placement in the house arrest program.

Other pleas

Molly Hewlette-Bullard, 24, no address, was arrested on Feb. 12, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance. She also pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia.

She is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison awaiting sentencing in several cases.

On the DUI charge she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year. On the drug count she was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge. She was given credit for three days already served and paroled.

Daniel M. Fink,Carlo R. Romero,Jarrett James Rotz, 29, of Bethlehem, was arrested on June 16, 2021, by Lehighton police for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500 and license suspended for a year.

He will begin serving the prison term at 8 a.m. on May 11.

Thomas Alton Smith, 43, of Whitehall, was arrested on Feb. 6, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Carl Cressley, 47, of Lehighton, was arrested on Oct. 19, 2018, by Lehighton police for DUI of a controlled substance. He refused a test.

He was sentenced to serve five years in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program (house arrest), with the first 90 days in the county prison followed by 9 months on electronic monitoring and the remainder on probation.

He was granted work-release privileges. He must also supply a DNA sample, pay a fine of $2,500 and license suspended for 18 months. He will begin the jail term at 5 p.m. on May 9.

Arthur Lee Billig, 36, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 27, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Joshua Jason Miccicke, 27, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Feb. 8, 2020, by Palmerton police for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.

Betsy Rae Piscelli, 64, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 31, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.

Erik E. Reppert, 55, of Whitehall, was arrested on Oct. 12, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the house arrest program.

Christopher D. Shumway, 48, of Lehighton, was arrested on May 2, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of alcohol.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Eric Lee Rex,Stephen M. Richards, 46, of Allentown, was arrested on Aug. 29, 2019, by Palmerton police while riding a bicycle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred.

Laura Santangelo, 33, of Gilbert, was arrested on April 27, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance. She also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related. In a plea deal a charge of endangering the welfare of a child was dropped. She had a 4-year-old child in the vehicle at the time of the stop. She also refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for the house arrest program.

David Vincent Crea, 73, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 27, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of alcohol.

A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.

Juan Florentino Almonte, 34, of Hazleton, was arrested on Nov. 1, 2201, by state police at Hazleton for DUI of alcohol. He also pleaded to one count of recklessly endangering another person. He was involved in an incident in Banks Township when his vehicle also struck a state police cruiser. He also fled the scene and abandoned his vehicle but was later apprehended following a short foot chase.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program. A presentence investigation report was also ordered.

Eduard Musheyev, 44, of Queens, New York, was arrested on Sept. 5, 2020, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of alcohol.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.

Josh Paul Binder, 22, of Lansford, was arrested on June 26, 2021, by state police at Lehighton for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year.

He will begin serving the jail term at 5:30 p.m. on May 6.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee.
