Man facing charges after assault

A Lehigh County man is facing charges following incidents that occurred on April 22 at 8:53 p.m. in the area of Lake View Drive and Blue Mountain Circle in Ross Township, Monroe County.

State police at Lehighton said James Woolley, 43, of Allentown, went to Blue Mountain Circle and began arguing with a 44-year-old man from Saylorsburg. The man apologized to Woolley, but the suspect threw a rock at the victim, causing him to lose consciousness and injuring his lip and teeth. The rock knocked out a tooth.

Woolley started smashing his own van with a metal pipe and then fled from police.

Troopers found Woolley along Lake View Drive with Wind Gap ambulance and personnel. Woolley admitted assaulting the man. Woolley was then taken into custody.

While in custody Woolley made suicidal threats to harm himself, bounced his head off a state police cruiser and put his head through the window of the Wind Gap ambulance, causing substantial damage to the ambulance and to his face.

Another ambulance was called to the scene and paramedics had to sedate Woolley in order to transport him to the hospital. He was admitted to the mental health unit for evaluation. A warrant was secured for his arrest for assault with a weapon and other counts, troopers said.
