Carbon County court

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday after pleading guilty in a drug-related case in the county court.

He was one of 12 defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Warrant arrest

Leonard Quay Jones Sr., 46, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.

He was arrested on Dec. 14, 2021, in Mahoning Township when county sheriff deputies served a warrant on him. While taking him into custody they found drugs in his pants pocket.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve three to one day less 24 months in prison and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use. The term runs concurrent with a sentence he is serving.

He will being serving the prison term on May 6 at 6 p.m. and serve it on consecutive weekends.

Robert Schmoyer, 36, of Bangor, Northampton County, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine. He was arrested on Dec. 9, 2017, by Lehighton police after they served a warrant on him following a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.

Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use.

Corey Miles Wentz, 47, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of retail theft and defiant trespass.

He was arrested in both case by Mahoning Township police. He was charged with the retail theft for an incident on Dec. 30, 2020, at the Walmart store and on June 4, 2021, also at the Walmart store for trespass. He previously signed an agreement not to enter any Walmart store.

On the retail theft count he was placed on probation for two years and on the trespass count, one year probation, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to supply a DNA sample and stay off of Walmart properties.

He is currently an inmate in the Northampton County prison on a probation violation charge.

Tucker R. Smith, 26, of Kunkletown, Towamensing Township, pleaded to one count of firearm not to be carried without a license.

He was arrested following a vehicle stop on June 30, 2018, by Palmerton police.

On April 11 Smith pleaded to one count of simple assault for an incident on Jan. 17, 2020, at his father’s residence. He assaulted his father. He was placed on probation for a year. He is an inmate in the county prison on the firearm count.

Nanovic sentenced him to time-served (50 days) to one day less 24 months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and supply a DNA sample.

Derek Lee Thompson, 29, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea the DA’s office dropped two counts of default in required appearance. He is an inmate in the county prison on the charges.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $300 and costs.

Brad McClintock, 50, of New Jersey, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement. In exchange for the plea a felony 2 count of forgery was dropped by the DA’s office. He was arrested on Sept. 17, 2021, by state police at Lehighton following an incident in East Penn Township.

He was sentenced to serve six to 12 months in prison with credit for 227 days already served and paroled. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and restitution of $218.29.

It was noted McClintock has a detainer on him filed by authorities in New Jersey, where he will have to go to answer charges.

Joshua Dylan Smith,Amanda Michel Wolfender, 26, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of criminal attempt - theft by deception. She was charged by agents of the Northeast Insurance Fraud Unit for making a false claim for damages. She was involved in a crash and afterward took out insurance on the vehicle, then made a claim for damages despite the fact the crash occurred prior to the insurance policy being issued.

Sentencing was deferred as she requested the adult probation office prepare a presentence investigation report.

Jordan L. Dhoble Hayden, 25, of Perkasie, Bucks County, pleaded to five counts of simple assault.

He was arrested by Lansford police on Sept. 1, 2021, after officers responded to a West Snyder Avenue residence for a disturbance. On scene police determined that Hayden became unruly and started to assault various family members. He was originally charged with 17 criminal counts including one count of resisting arrest, six counts of persistent disorderly conduct and five counts of harassment.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Scott Ryan Yasson, 42, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on May 13, 2021, by Lansford police outside the police station.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.

Yasson is currently an inmate in the county prison and has two more pending cases.

Thomas Mundie, 39, of Freeland, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested on July 26, 2018, by Lansford police in the area of Boyer’s Market on West Bertsch Street.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Jeremiah Nathaniel Alston, 21, of Plymouth, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 8, 2020, by Nesquehoning police following a vehicle stop on Route 209.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $100 and costs.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
