Subdivision plan underway at Atlas Park

The process of dividing land at a monumental recreation facility in West Penn Township has begun.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti briefly alluded to Atlas Park at Monday morning’s board of supervisors meeting.

“The subdivision started,” Prudenti said. “So that is underway.”

Earlier this month, supervisors agreed to have ARRO Consulting Inc. move forward with the subdivision plan for the park.

The township received the grant agreement, and can proceed with the land acquisition.

At that time, the board agreed to have the subdivision plan to include a land layout/development plan.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti asked township solicitor Paul J. Datte at that time to reach out to the property owner to let him know what the township is doing, along with what the next steps will be.

In January, plans to construct a major park in the township took a major step with a $242,000 grant.

Supervisors in July 2020 accepted an agreement with resident Dennis D’Angelo, who donated 26 acres of land at Bella Terra Farms LLC to the township.

That’s where Atlas Park will call its home.

The matching DCNR grant is the value of the land, doubled. Supervisor Glenn Hummel previously said the donation of the land qualifies as the match - meaning no money out of the township’s pocket.

Hummel added at that time that Atlas Park is planned to be four times the size of the township’s Morgan Park.

Plans and goals for Atlas Park include baseball and soccer fields, dog park, Frisbee area and nature trails around the entire perimeter of the property for walking and biking.

Quite possibly the largest aspect of the project is the proposed building of a large recreational center.
