Tamaqua news for April 15, 2022

Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club met on March 22. The following were judged winners from members’ entries with a duck as an accessory: First place, Evelyn Adams; second place, Marj Bridygham; third place, Jean Kane.

Specimen, forced branch: First place, forsythia, Sara Jane Bensinger; second place, lilac; third place, cherry branch, Ann Fedor.

The next meeting is April 26 and will be a tour of Blue Mountain Farms at noon. For more information on transportation, contact Louise at 570-467-3400. New members are always welcome.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on April 7 with 31 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “Spring.”

Marlene Randig was added to the sick list. No meeting on April 14 due to the holiday.

The group meets every Thursday at the Coaldale Complex at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. Easter Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunrise service at 6:15 a.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle with Pastor Gary Snyder presenting the message. There will be no evening service this Sunday.

Holy Thursday service at Congregational Free Church of Christ, McKeansburg with hymn sing at 7:15 p.m. and service at 7:30 p.m. Food Friday service at 1:30 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, New Ringgold. Wednesday prayer meeting at 7 p.m.

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met on April 12 with 43 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “You Never Walk Alone.”

Guest Jessica Hardy was given a warm welcome along with returning member Betty Bablo. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Randig were added to the sick list.

A crystal bowl with fruit was donated by Cindy Godenis and won by Kim Usalis. Cake winners were Nancy Eisley and Tille. John Taylor donated strawberry wafers for refreshments. All members were given Easter candy.

Upcoming events include April 19, trip to Mohegan Sun Casino; May 10, Anniversary dinner at Chrust Church, Varnesville at noon; July 26 annual picnic at St. Peter’s Grove, Locust Valley.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Christ UCC, Barnesville at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Baby food distribution

St. Vincent de Paul Society of Saint John XXIII parish located at 307 Pine St. in Tamaqua has announced that distribution has been scheduled for April 23 due to the Easter holiday. Families living in the Tamaqua Area School District or belonging to the parish are eligible for the free baby and toddler food. Registration is required by the Wednesday prior to distribution date.

American Primitive

Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua. There will be no Sunday school until further notice. Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St.
