– It was a cool day for baseball at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe as the Olympians bowed to Freeland MMI.

The only casualty of the game was Phil “Pip” Rader, JTHS cage coach, who sustained damage to his trousers while umpiring. When he ran in the direction of first base to make a call, he stretched and R… I… P...

After a consultation with the other man in blue, Vic Pituch, Rader hurried into the fieldhouse and emerged with new trousers and his characteristic smile.
