Brush fires reported throughout region

Breezy and dry conditions combined to create an environment for brush fires Friday afternoon. Several fires were reported throughout the area, including one on the ridge behind the Pencor Building in Aquashicola and many throughout Monroe County.

Several West End fire companies were called to one just after 2 p.m. on Timothy Drive in Effort.

Farm tractors, a vehicle and about 200 tires were caught up in a brush fire on Action Road on fire in Eldred Township just after 1 p.m.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was called to the scene with a helicopter to battle a large brush fire off Five Springs Road in Jackson Township.

Conditions should improve Saturday with rain is in forecast.
