5K to benefit Lansford Pool, veterans group

Salute Inc. and Lansford Pool are teaming up to hold a 5K Lansford Pool Group Run in support of both organizations.

Lacey Timony of Tamaqua came up with the idea when she was running through Coaldale from the pool parking lot, down Phillips, looping around Foster onto Miner Street and back onto Phillips and thought to herself that it’d make a great track for a 5K run.

“It’s fast going out with challenging hills on the way back,” Timony said.

Timony, a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for 19 years now, holds Salute Inc. dear to her heart. Salute Inc. financially helps veterans who may not otherwise qualify for the help they need to transition back to civilian life.

She approached Nate Halenar of the Lansford Pool committee with the idea, and they agreed to split the proceeds of the event for both organizations.

Certified Road Runners Club of America Running Coach Timony will be at the free, donation-based event on April 30, beginning at 9 a.m. All walkers and runners are welcome, and all proceeds collected will go directly to Salute Inc. and Lansford Pool.

Any donation amount is accepted and prizes will be handed out for those who place in both the women’s and men’s groups.

Roads will not be closed to traffic and no major highways will be used. Participants will run at their own risk.

Another similar event will take place on May 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Revere Brewery on 1313 E. Broad St. in Tamaqua. Donations at that event will be collected exclusively for Salute Inc.
