Local roundup: Results from April 13
Marian and Northwestern each picked up baseball victories on Wednesday.
Other local winners were the Palmerton softball team and the Lehighton tennis team.
BASEBALL
Mahanoy Area-Marian
Brian Hinkle went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Marian to a 7-3 Schuylkill League win over Mahanoy Area.
Jake Bobish also had a couple of hits for the Colts (5-3), while Mason Gibson and Joey Walko added one hit each.
Gibson was the winning pitcher, striking out four batters in four solid innings of relief work for Marian.

Northwestern-Bangor
Benjamin Boyer’s two-run single in the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie and Northwestern went to post a 4-1 Colonial League victory over Bangor.
Boyer also picked up the pitching win, striking out six batters. Tanner Romig’s RBI-single put the Tigers on the board in the sixth.
Northwestern moves to 4-6 on the season.

Weatherly-Shenandoah Valley
Shenandoah Valley rolled to a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly in a three-inning mercy-rule game.
Bernando Cruz pitched three hitless innings for the Devils, while Owen Kosar went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Jack James stole a base for Weatherly, which falls to 1-4 on the season.

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe
North Schuylkill defeated Jim Thorpe, 9-2, in Schuylkill League play.
Rich Strack had two hits for the Olympians, while Garrett Lienhard, Drew Wimmer, Jack Edwards and Tanner Yurchak all had one hit. Evan Murphy added a sacrifice fly.
James Lordi started the game on the mound for the Olympians (2-4) and threw four innings of two-hit, one-run ball.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton
Blue Mountain rolled to a 15-6 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Austin Greene had two hits and two RBIs for the Indians, while Noah Barndt and Michael Yeakel both knocked in runs. Ian Rarick closed the game for Lehighton with one-hit ball over two innings of relief.
The loss drops the Indians to 5-2 on the season.

A four-run seventh inning that included a Ross Huffman game-winning sacrifice fly lifted East Stroudsburg South past Pleasant Valley 8-7 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.
Andrew Meitzler and Ryan Kymer each had RBIs for the Bears (6-2). Jack Smale scored three runs for Pleasant Valley, while James Syracuse and Austin Ratti each had a hit.

Palmerton-Panther Valley
Palmerton needed only three innings to come away with a 17-0 non-league victory over Panther Valley.
Bomber pitcher Carly Gaffney tossed a no-hitter in the mercy-rule shortened game, striking out seven batters.
Sydney Frantz led off the game with a solo home run for the Palmerton. She also added a single and an RBI. Kelsey Balliet added a single, double and two RBIs. Gaffney contributed a double, a triple and three RBIs.
Palmerton improves to 6-3 overall, while Panther Valley slips to 0-5 on the season.

North Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe
A 10-run third inning sparked North Schuylkill in a 12-1 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Johannah Taylor’s solo home run put the finishing touches on the Spartans’ third inning. Morgan Dinger got it started with a two-run double, which scored Shiana DeAngelo and Taylor Ferrari.
Kristin Pompa, Tara McLean and Allie Skrimcovsky all had singles for the Olympians (3-4 overall; 1-3 SL). Skrimcovsky’s base hit also accounted for JT’s lone run, as Carson Rosenberger scored after reaching base on an error.
North Schuylkill moves to 3-1 overall, and 2-1 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-Stroudsburg
Stroudsburg added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away with a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.
Bears’ pitcher Kailyn Getz kept things close in the circle, as she allowed just two hits and one run until the Mounties pushed across three runs on five hits in the sixth.
Brianca Pridham recorded two singles for the Bears. Hailey Krock and Getz also had hits for PV.
The Bears drop to 3-4 overall (2-4 EPC), while Stroudsburg improves to 5-3 (4-3).

Lourdes Regional took advantage of a two-run fifth inning to come away with a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.
Katelyn Elgin and Makayla Adams scored the decisive runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, while Hailee Brown struck out eight and walked one in a two-hit shutout victory.
Bryn Clifford struck out seven and walked two for the Blue Raiders. Clifford (single, walk) and Kaziah Streisel (single) recorded hits for Tamaqua.
Tamaqua falls to 0-6 overall, while Lourdes moves to 3-2 on the season.

The Blue Devils (3-3 overall; 3-1 SL) built a 10-1 lead after three innings.
Ava Mejivar sparked Shenandoah with a single, triple and three runs scored, while DeAngelo added two singles and two runs scored.
Kelly Michaels led the Wreckers (1-1; 0-1) with a single and a run scored, while Madisyn Vonfrisch added the other hit.
