Local Roundup: Results from April 12

Jim Thorpe picked up victories in both tennis and track and field on Tuesday.

The Tamaqua and Pleasant Valley softball teams, the Lehighton tennis team, and the Palmerton boys and girls track teams also picked up wins.

SOFTBALL

Tamaqua-Northwestern

Brynn Balliet’s walk-off single gave Northwestern a 7-6 nonleague victory over Tamaqua.

Olivia Stofflet knocked in three runs for the Tigers, who also got home runs from Morgan Farthing and Quinn Conrey in a three-run fifth inning that tied the game.

The Blue Raiders’ Bryn Clifford had a big day at the plate with four hits and three RBIs. Hailey Williams added a double and a triple for Tamaqua, while Gabby Robb and Riley MacMillan also had two hits apiece.

Northwestern improves to 8-1 on the season, while Tamaqua slips to 0-5,

Pleasant Valley-Wilson

A five-run sixth inning lifted Pleasant Valley to a 12-6 nonleague victory over Wilson.

Erin Roberti (four RBIs) and Dana Getz (two runs scored) both had four-hit games to lead a potent Pleasant Valley offense that also featured big games from Erin Kratzer (three hits, three runs scored, two RBIs); Hailey Krock (two hits, two runs scored); Lydia Borger (two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs); and Brianca Pridham (two singles, two RBIs).

BASEBALL

Catasauqua rolled to a 12-2 mercy-rule shortened victory over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

Jackson Van Norman singled in a run for Northern Lehigh. Cole Hausman and Jack Tosh produced the Bulldogs’ only other hits.

Northern Lehigh (0-9) is still seeking its first win of the season.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Parkland at Northwestern

Parkland cruised to a 19-9 nonleague victory over Northwestern.

Ava Collins led Northwestern (1-7) with three goals, while Claire Costa and Alexis Vennera each scored two goals apiece, and Ella D’Angelo and Sarah Schultz both scored once.

TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Notre Dame ES

Jim Thorpe picked up a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

The Olympians’ sweep of the singles matches included a comeback victory from Sam Seachrist in the No. 2 position. After dropping their first set, Seachrist rebounded and eventually pulled out the victory in a third-set super tiebreaker.

Jim Thorpe moves to 3-9 overall, while Notre Dame ES slips to 0-7.

Aaron Miller continued his strong play at No. 1 singles and Lehighton swept doubles play to edge Palisades, 3-2.

The Indians (7-3) got straight-set wins from Ben Slaw and Bayto Cokrlija at No. 1 doubles, and Skyy Steber and Zane Smith at No. 2 doubles to back Miller’s performance.

The Olympians posted a 98-49 victory in the girls meet, and a 114-36 win in the boys meet.

Kaila O’Connor (100, 200, 400) and David Richards (110H, 300H, high jump) had impressive days for Jim Thorpe with three individual firsts apiece.

Laura Clarke (shot put, discus) and Ridge Snyder (800, 1600) also posted multiple first-place finishes for the Olympians.

The Spartan girls recorded a 105-44 victory, while the Spartan boys breezed to a 112.5-28.5 win.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs got individual firsts in the girls meet from Katelynn Barthold (1600), Caitlin Kirk (discus), Kendall Snyder (triple jump), Zoe Hathaway (high jump) and Emily Moyer (pole vault).

Jared Thomason (300H) was the only event winner for the NL boys.

The Bomber girls picked up an 86-54 victory, while the boys rolled to a 114-26 win.

Nataly Walters (100, 200), Abigail Fredericks (discus, javelin) and Emma Christman (long jump, triple jump) all had multiple first-place finishes for the Palmerton girls.

For the Bomber boys, Lucas Heydt (100, javelin), Owen Hibell (800, 1600) and Stephen Jones (long jump, triple jump) all recorded a pair of firsts.
