Local Roundup: Results from April 11

Marian, Northwestern and Palmerton all gained wins in both baseball and softball action on Monday.

BASEBALL

Marian-Notre Dame ES

Marian pushed across two runs in the top of the ninth inning to come away with a 4-2 extra inning victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg in non-league action.

Joey Walko paced the Colts with a single, triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Brian Hinkle added two runs, a walk and a single.

Starter Jake Bobish tossed six innings, scattered four hits, and struck out 13 Spartans, but had to settle for a no decision. Mason Gibson came in relief, and only allowed three hits, struck out two and walked one to earn the win on the bump.

Moravian Ac.-Northwestern

Northwestern fed off a 10-run opening inning to run away with a 15-0 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.

The Tigers (3-5 overall; 3-3 CL) only needed three innings of play against the Lions (0-5; 0-5) thanks to their productive first inning, and five more in the second.

Benjamin Boyer had two at-bats in the first inning as Northwestern batted around, coming away with a two-run double and then later added an RBI-double.

Robert Croneberger (RBI-single) and Eli Zimmerman (two-run double) added hits in the first inning.

Zimmerman finished with a single, double, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Boyer also had three runs scored and three RBIs.

Palmerton-Salisbury

A two-run ninth inning pushed Palmerton to a 4-2 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

The Falcons (3-1 overall; 3-1 CL) knotted the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was the Bombers (6-2; 4-2) who secured the win.

Cole Serfass scored on a Connor Beahm sacrifice fly, and then Kaleb Eitner scored an insurance run on a passed ball for Palmerton. Chase Reph earned the win on the mound after taking the bump in the fifth inning, and went on to strike out seven, walking one while surrendering only an earned run.

Leadoff hitter Daniel Lucykanish finished with two singles and a run scored for the Bombers.

Shenandoah-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley blasted three home runs to get the best of Shenandoah Valley for a 9-5 victory.

Cody Orsulak (solo), Brad Hood (solo) and Matt Engler (three-run) all went deep for the Panthers, who improved to 3-1 on the season. Hayden Goida recorded two singles and a run scored for PV.

Starter Stephen Hood was dialed in on the mound, as he went five and two-third innings, struck out 10, walked two, and only allowed three runs for the win.

Andrew Meitzler’s walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth inning sealed the deal as Pleasant Valley earned a 6-5 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Whitehall.

Meitzler had the hot bat for the Bears (6-1 overall; 6-1 EPC), as he finished 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Jack Smale (two singles, run scored), Ryan Kymer (single, double, RBI) and Jake Gethen (two singles) all chipped in with multiple hits for PV.

Weatherly-Linc. Leadership

Weatherly handed head coach Ryan Fegley his first win thanks to a 12-7 non-league victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

Jack James took the hill for the Wreckers (1-3 overall), and recorded 12 strikeouts in five innings of work against the Lions (1-4). James also ended with a single, double and three RBIs at the plate.

Dylan Buck (single, two RBIs) and Tanner Hinkle both stole home twice, as the Wreckers went on to swipe a total of 19 bases.

Northern Lehigh-Wilson

Wilson escaped with a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh thanks to two runs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs scattered nine hits off Warrior (3-2; 2-2) pitchers, but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities to earn the win.

Josh Kistler paced the Bulldogs (0-8, 0-6) with three singles, a walk and an RBI, while Cole Hausman (single, double, RBI) and Jackson Van Norman (two singles, walk) both chipped in with multiple hits.

Jack Tosh and Nicklaus Buskirk scored the Bulldogs’ two runs.

Pine Grove came away with a 4-1 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Mason Moyer finished with two singles for the Blue Raiders, who outhit the Cardinals 5-3. Mason Ligenza added an RBI-double, which scored Cooper Ansbach.

Lane Lehman led the Cardinals with a single and two runs scored.

Notre Dame-ES-Marian

Morgan Kelly threw a one-hit shutout in a 14-0 Marian non-league win over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg.

Kelly also had two hits and two RBIs for the Fillies (5-0). In addition to Kelly, Eden Fleming, Gracie Gallagher, Alise Heisey and Anna Grabosky each knocked in two runs in the Marian rout, while Jackie Guth also had two hits.

Palmerton-Salisbury

Lauren Cohen, Emily Christopher and Kelsey Balliet each knocked in two runs in Palmerton’s 9-4 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Carly Gaffney struck out 11 batters for Palmerton (5-3). Cadee Munjone also had two hits for the Lady Bombers.

Wilson came away with a 14-5 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Jordyn Hemingway hit a double and a triple for the Bulldogs (4-4), while Cadance Peters and Emma Smith also had multi-hit games. Hayley Thoder knocked in a run for Northern Lehigh.

Hannah Bausher’s walk-off home run for Southern Lehigh handed Northwestern an 8-7 loss in Colonial League play.

Sage Toman, Olivia Stofflet and Morgan Farthing all hit home runs for Northwestern (7-1).

Farthing went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for the Lady Tigers.

Morgan O’Brien hit two home runs to go along with four RBIs for Panther Valley in a 19-10 Schuylkill League loss to Shenandoah Valley.

Brenna Beshock also knocked in three runs for the Panthers (0-4). Mikayla Yuricheck recorded two RBIs, and Lucy Greco also had an RBI.

Kolbe Robb and Addison Krall each recorded hits in Tamaqua’s 11-1 loss to Pine Grove.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Emmaus-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley earned its sixth-straight win by rallying past Emmaus 15-10 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Alexandra Bush scored seven goals and had two assists for the Bears (6-2), who trailed 8-6 at halftime. Brielle McInaw had four goals and an assist, and Olivia Iandoli (assist) and Devon Bush both scored twice.

Julia Cote had seven goals for the Hornets (8-1).

BOYS LACROSSE

Northampton-Northwestern

Andrew Sabo’s four goals highlighted Northwestern’s 14-2 win over visiting Northampton.

Andrew Collins followed with one goal and seven assists for the Tigers (4-3), while Blaine Snyder chipped in with three goals and an assist.

Austin Sosnovik (two goals), Cade Christopher (one goal, one assist), Devon Hildebrand (one goal, one assist), Stone Sosnovik (goal) and Taylor Wikert (one goal) also helped Northwestern record the win.

TENNIS

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Pottsville edged Jim Thorpe, 3-2.

Brendan McDermott and Samuel Seachrist both picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Olympians (2-9).
