Touchdown Club hosts Easter egg hunt fundraiser

Members of the Olympian Football Team and the Touchdown Club hosted their second annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Jim Thorpe High School Gymnasium on Saturday. Members placed the eggs around the gym floor, and they helped the children who took part in the egg hunt.

Three hunts were held throughout the morning for children through 10 years old.

Vivian Capria, president of the Touchdown Club, said, “Last year we did it for the first time; it was a new thing. We usually have an Easter bunny Breakfast, but we had to change gears because of COVID.

In 2020, the event was canceled altogether.

“We had a nice turnout last year, so we hoped to do it again this year, weather permitting,” Capria said. The event was moved indoors because of the rain.

The $10 admission fee for the family included a family photo with the Easter bunny, the egg hunts and a bouncy house ride.

The Easter bunny was on hand as well as Big Herc, the Jim Thorpe Olympians’ Mascot.

“We are trying to give back to the community, something to do, a way to experience a family event,” Capria said. “And we also do it to benefit the Touchdown Club. The funds raised today will be used for the football program for the seventh through 12th grades.”

In addition to the egg hunt, there was a raffle for a boy’s and a girl’s bicycle, plus tickets to the Kalahari Waterpark. They also had a basket raffle.

“We hope the community enjoys it,” Capria added, “and it will be something we can look forward to next year. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can hold outside on the football field.”

Aubrey Bonner and Megan Rosahac sold tickets for the raffle for the boy's and the girl's bicycles, plus tickets to the Kalahari Waterpark at the second annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Jim Thorpe Area High School.
