Schuylkill County commissioners

Schuylkill County commissioners approved a number of contracts and bid requests at a public meeting Wednesday.

• A contract with Abel Fence LLC, Wrightsville, York County, to install a 65-foot galvanized chain-link fence to enclose the mezzanine and stairs in E block at the prison for $10,800. The contract term is April 6 to Dec. 31, 2022.

• A second contract with Abel Fence to replace 620 feet of razor ribbon for $35,300. The contract terms are the same.

• A contract with Thomson Reuters, for the prison law library, from June 1, 2022, through May 31, 2025, at a total cost of $73,238.88. Monthly charges for each year are: year one, $1,936; year two, $2,032; year three, $2,134.

For the courthouse:

• Approval to purchase and install equipment from B and B integrations of Lancaster, a COSTARS (the state’s cooperative purchasing program) vendor, for $6,525. The repairs to the audio system in Courtroom Number One is needed due to damage by a power surge. The components to replace include four speakers, one amplifier, and a power surge protector.

• The Public Works Department will seek invitations to bid on the cleaning of the county human services building at 410 N. Center St., Pottsville. Sealed bids are due in the controller’s office by 4 p.m. April 25. The bids will be opened publicly at 9 a.m. April 27 in the commissioners’ board room.

• Approval to enter into a cooperation agreement with the county Housing Authority and Pottsville Housing Authority to perform rental inspections and rent reasonable determinations for the Emergency Solutions Grants program.

• Approval to seek demolition projects in Gilberton borough Norwegian Township and St. Clair Borough. Bids will be due in the controller’s office by 4 p.m. April 25. The bid openings will take place at 9 a.m. April 27, with a tentative award date of May 4.
