Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items during their weekly meeting last week.

• Approved a resolution from Carbon County Planning and Development to apply for a Community Recreation and Conservation Planning Grant and the commitment of $100,000 matching funds to update the current Carbon Comprehensive Plan and Greenway Plan.

• Approved an agreement with Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission to provide drug and alcohol treatment counseling services for the inmate population at the correctional facility through Dec. 31. The cost is $68,597, which is paid through the commissary funds.

• Commissioner Rocky Ahner announced that the veterans food program that serves area veterans has reached 100 participants and urged any veterans to apply for the food boxes because they deserve it. Veterans can call Ahner at the commissioners’ office at 570-325-3611 and he can pass along your information to the group handling the registrations.

• Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for a new board member. Anyone interested in becoming a member to help with overseeing decisions of Mauch Chunk Lake Park can call Dave Horvath at the park office at 570-325-3669.

Personnel

• Resignation: Norman A. Bachart of Weatherly, board of assessment appeals member, tax assessment, effective March 25.

• Hire as recommended by supervisor: Chelsey S. Bailey of Nesquehoning, secretary III, Children and Youth, effective April 4.

• Acknowledgment of sheriff appointment: John H. Ledeboer of Orefield, special deputy sheriff trainee, effective April 4.
