Lenten service

Zion Lutheran will hold a Lenten Service of Healing at 7:30 p.m. today.

Post 927 meets

American Legion Post 927 A members are meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Post home in Gilbert.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

AARP tax help

More information about the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide can be gotten by calling 1-866-389-5654.

Locally, Salem UCC, Gilbert, is a site, where Carbon AARP volunteers can help seniors. However, one must call 484-764-6964 to make a reservation for an appointment. No walk-ins are accepted.

Deadline ahead

Friday is the deadline to help West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown fill 300 Easter baskets with individually wrapped Easter candy and trinkets.

Donations can be dropped off at the pantry on Kunkletown Road.

Eldred presentation

Friday at 2 p.m. at the municipal building in Kunkletown, Eldred Township will have a public presentation concerning the proposed Village Overlay District.

Fish dinner

Knights of Columbus, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, is hosting a Lenten fish and chips Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCawley Hall. It will benefit the K of C scholarship fund.

Breakfast featured

McMichaels UMC is having a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Everyone is welcome.

The complete breakfast includes beverages.

The church also has AA meetings at the church every Wednesday at noon and every Saturday evening at 6:30. The meeting is free, confidential and led by a professional.

Serenity Narcotics Anonymous meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The meeting is open to all who want to participate and seek the help needed to assist in one’s recovery. The meeting is free and confidential and led by a professional.

Garden of Giving

The opening of the Garden of Giving is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the focus being cleaning up winter debris and readying the raised beds for planting.

Celebration ongoing

The Western Pocono Community Library continues its celebration of National Library Week through Saturday.

Throughout the month the library offers many adult and children’s programs.

Youth honored

Several Young members of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church were recently presented with the Bishop’s Youth Award.

So honored for significant contributions and commitment to the areas of Word, Worship, Service and Community were Giovanna Kopchik, Andrew LaFiura, Brian Correia, Tina Onubogu, Emma Martin, and Keegan Martin, Kendyl Ramsay, Jocelyn Makara, Joseph Monaco and Nicholas Lopez DelCastillo.

Craft/gift fair

This Saturday is the day for the West End Park and Open Space Commission Spring Craft and Gift Fair which includes Langan’s Patties providing food at the Chestnuthill Park.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and events end at 2 p.m.

Effort pantry

This Saturday the Effort UMC pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Easter distribution will be included in the regular distribution this Saturday.

Distribution of food is being limited to drive-up/pickup service only.

Dog training event

A free dog training session with University Pets will be held at the West End Regional Park on Merwine Hilltop Road beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Trainer David Henon will be there.

Spaghetti dinner

Wesley Hall at Effort UMC will be the place for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner being served from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday benefiting austinsblueline.org.

Easter egg hunts

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is holding an open to community Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday with the Easter Bunny expected to be in attendance.

Cornerstone Church will hold an Easter egg hunt Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. It is free and will include prize eggs, spring family photo, story walk, popcorn and cotton candy.

McMichaels UMC will hold its Easter egg hunt for the children of the community on Palm Sunday, following worship service which is from 9:30 to 10:30. All are welcome to worship with the church family and stay for some fun with the children after the service.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is asking for donations of plastic eggs and individually wrapped candy. The egg hunt is scheduled for April 16 and will take place after the blessing of the Easter baskets at 1 p.m.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God church is hosting its Easter Eggstravaganza for church and community at noon Saturday.

Zion Lutheran is hosting a free community Easter egg hunt Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. It is open to all children up to fifth grade. There will be games, food, an egg hunt and the Easter Bunny will be available for photos.

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has set its Easter egg hunt for 1 p.m. April 16 at Ross Township Park.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC will hold its Fellowship Breakfast from 9:30 to 10:45 p.m. Sunday. It is a freewill offering donation event.

Legion Riders

The American Legion Riders monthly meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at The American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road/Route 209, Gilbert.

Bike blessing

American Legion Riders Chapters 927 is holding its annual Blessing of the Bikes (motorcycles) on Sunday, beginning at noon, with Rider Chaplain Keith Miskelly presiding.

All bikers are welcome.

Palm Sunday

Effort UMC will have services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Effort UMC youth will be presenting The Life of Jesus Easter pageant during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, will celebrate Palm Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will have 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services with Blessing of the Palms and Holy Communion.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will have Mass and Distribution of Palms on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. (Spanish).

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will have its service at 9 a.m. It begins with the annual celebration of Jesus’ Triumphal entry into Jerusalem and ends with the reading of the Passion story in preparation for Jesus’ arrest, trial and crucifixion.

St. Peter’s will celebrate Palm Sunday celebrating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem at 10 a.m.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will have services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m.

Sunday supper

On Sunday, from 3 to 4 p.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host its next free community Sunday upper.

Special program

On Monday, there will be an Active Shooter Protection presentation at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville from 6 to 7:30 p.m. by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Learn mitigation, action steps, and awareness strategies and ask questions also.

Bingo Night

Monday at 6:30 p.m. it is bingo night for the community at Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Group of Effort is meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. Hostesses are Pat Mackes and Janet Pierson. Devotions will be provided by Pat Mackes.

The program for this meeting will be making a dessert-themed basket for the upcoming church auction.
