Tamaqua Area High School faculty member E. George Willing was the recipient of the 15th Annual Courage Award from the American Cancer Society, Carbon-Tamaqua Unit, during the 1995 telethon this weekend.

Willing, a volunteer with the unit for 15 years, was presented the award by Connie Bieling, director of social services at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, who was the first recipient of the award.

The telethon aired on Blue Ridge Cable TV and Service Electric TV surpassed its goal of $50,000 by $3,064, according to Patricia Haughton, executive director of the unit.
