Lenten services

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, continues its Lenten series of I AM at 7 p.m. Tonight’s service theme is I AM the vine and you are the branches as presented by the Rev. Zabdiel Khan.

Baby blankets due

Adalyn, a second-grader in Mrs. Hauze’s class in the Pleasant Valley School District, had a dream. Her dream is to donate blankets to babies in the hospital.

Anyone who would like to help that dream grow is asked to bring a new or gently used baby blanket to PVE no later than Thursday.

Visiting church

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church and its members have the opportunity to visit and worship with others as the church family heads out to a First Friday service at Innovation Church in Cresco at 7 p.m.

It will be a time of prayer, worship and fellowship with other believers in the community.

Infant and toddler cares will be provided.

Those wishing to travel with the group are asked to be at the Brodheadsville church at 6 p.m.

Pantry open

West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

Artist debut

Capturing the Music in Nature, an exhibit by Nancy Embich of Saylorsburg, will debut at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

Everything in nature has a cadence to it if one just watches, waits and listens. Nancy captures those special moments with her camera.

Her work will be on display at Kettle Creek from Saturday through April 29.

Artists featured in the Gallery at Kettle Creek generously donate 20 percent of their work sold during their exhibition to the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

Church gift bags

St. John’s Lutheran Church Auxiliary in Effort met and filled 30 gift bags for Valor in time for Easter, including nine for men, 11 for women and 10 for children.

Those gift bags were then taken by member Al Pearson to a mission site in Easton as well as to Allentown.

Library Week

The Western Pocono Community Library has announced that April 3 through 9 is National Library Week. The community is invited stop in and celebrate with staff.

Receive a raffle entry when checking out 10 or more items.

Ross Supervisors

Ross Township Supervisors meet at 6 p.m. the first Monday of the month at the township municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

PVSD Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Diversity Task Force is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Helping Ukraine

The Orphan Outreach Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be collecting over-the-counter medication and baby formula for the displaced orphans and people of Ukraine.

Suggested donations include OTC medicine, pain relievers, allergy and cold medicines, antibiotic ointments, anti-diarrhea meds, baby formula, Pedialyte, vitamins; first aid supplies for children and adults. They must be new, in unopened packages and not expired. Drop them off at the church office and include a list of items with donations.

Also helping Ukrainian neighbors are people at St. Matthews’s UCC with a connection between Dan Smale and his brother, a member of a church in Germany where the pastor has a connection with a Methodist church in Ukraine through an ecumenical network.

Brotherhood meets

The Brotherhood from Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Members are invited to bring a friend.

Lenten Penance

A Lenten Penance service has been announced by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be several priests from local parishes available to hear Confessions.

Block shoot

Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding another block shoot and meat raffle Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. It is 12-gauge shotgun only.

The West End Park & Open Space Commission invites the community to participate in a Five Below fundraiser to benefit WEPOSC from Sunday through next Saturday.

PVE book bingo

On Monday, the PVE PTO will host its second PVE PTO Book Bingo from 6 to 8 p.m. in the PVE cafeteria for those who missed the first event. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Sign-up is required at signup.com/go/GL7B28. This is for PVE students and one adult guest per student. Space is limited to 350 people.

Bingo night

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting its weekly public bingo Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. with card sales and calling at 7 p.m.

Rebate program

Older and disabled Pennsylvanians can now apply for rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2021, according to Monroe County’s Seniors’ Express Times.

For details seniors can visit mypath.pa.gov to file their 2021 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program applications.

Shawl time

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will be meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday.

WEHA meeting

The West End Home Association, American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting is open to all Post members.

Meal choices

Upcoming for next week Wednesday and Friday, respectively, are the following meal choices for seniors meeting at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville: chicken piccata and tuna noodle casserole.

For meal reservations, call the site manager Donna Riedel at 570-242-6770 one day in advance by 11 a.m.

Healing service

Next Wednesday, Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will hold a Lenten Service of Healing at 7:30 p.m. with Holy Communion.

Deadline ahead

April 8 is the deadline to help West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown fill 300 Easter baskets with individually wrapped Easter candy and trinkets.

Donations can be dropped off at the pantry on Kunkletown Road.

Breakfast served

On April 9, McMichaels Methodist will hold another donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome. One can enjoy a complete breakfast, including beverages.
