Palmerton native lead editor of new Netflix superhero series: ‘Guardians of Justice’

An award-winning filmmakers gaudy list of personal achievements continues to grow.

Palmerton native Noah Berlow celebrated the world release of a provocative American pop culture superhero series that began streaming earlier this month.

Berlow, who serves as lead editor of the newly released Netflix superhero series, “The Guardians of Justice,” said the series has been streaming since March 1.

Fresh from being selected as only one of 10 series to compete in the prestigious Palme d’Or Award Competition at the 2021 Canneseries of the Cannes Film Festival last October in Cannes, France, “Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!),” Season 1 was created by Adi Shankar (best known for “Castlevania”) with the help of Berlow as lead editor and co-creator.

The series stars include Sharni Vinson, Jane Seymour, Denise Richards and WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Diamond Dallas Page.

The superhero series “stays true to the spirit of … exciting comics. An intellectual saga where lunatic superheroes embody a declining country.

A dark satire of the superhero genre, “Guardians of Justice” mixes live action with traditional animation, claymation, cutout paper animation, and 8-bit video game footage in a kaleidoscope of pop art insanity.”

“This project was one of the most complex, high concept and creative challenges of my career,” Berlow said. “It’s been an honor to help an established and talented artist like producer/writer Adi Shankar bring his intellectual social commentary saga to life.

“When this project was first introduced to me almost four years ago, what attracted me most was the opportunity to invite audiences to view American pop culture with a critical eye. It’s gratifying to see how the extensive creative efforts of the entire team are embodied and enhanced in the final product.”

For Berlow, filmmaking is his passion.

“My biggest passion in doing a lot of the work that drives me the most is always trying to find opportunities to present films that can make an impact on society to help us view our culture in a critical way,” he said. “If a show can create conversation, we’ve done our job.”

Berlow said it’s important to be imaginative.

“It’s important to be critical of our society, of our culture,” he said. “To do something that’s a little controversial, a little out of the box, will get people to hopefully wake up and see their world in the same way.”

Award-winning career

Berlow is no stranger to accolades.

In December 2019, his documentary short film “What if …” was chosen as the winner of the 2019 Dan Eldon Activist Award and Best Documentary Award at the 15th Annual My Hero International Film Festival in Laguna Beach, California.

That came after Berlow and his L.A. company Immortal Cinema International LLC produced and edited a 10-minute video short of Sully Erna and Godsmack’s Gold Record Award for their number one mainstream rock single “Bulletproof” from their album “When Legends Rise” in 2018. “Bulletproof” has since gone platinum.

In 2014, Berlow won the 2014 Outstanding Young Alumni Award presented by the Ithaca College Alumni Association at the blue & Gold Appreciation Gala at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

Along with director Katina Dunn and cinematographer Avi Cohen of Los Angeles, Berlow also won their Award for Best Documentary for their film, “Kumpania Flamenco Los Angeles” presented at the Memphis International Film Festival in Memphis, Tennessee.

Beginning career

Berlow began his career in film working for Steven Spielberg’s SHOAH Visual History Foundation.

Through his company, Immortal Cinema International LLC, located in Los Angeles, Berlow continues to straddle the worlds of entertainment and social impact filmmaking, and is always looking for opportunities to come back to make films in Pennsylvania and on the East Coast.

Berlow is a graduate of Palmerton Area High School, and the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, where he received Ithaca’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2014.

His work straddles two worlds; the world of entertainment, and the world of serious documentaries that educate, raise consciousness, and help bring about positive change.

Berlow currently resides in Los Angeles, where he continues to tell stories visually through his film production company and pursues making a social impact through his Veterans in Cinema Foundation.
