Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on March 17 at the Coaldale Complex with 28 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “Irish Blessings.”

Ruth Betz was added to the sick list and Pat Fredericks was showered with birthday wishes.

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.

The Zion Men will meet this Saturday at 8 a.m. in Memorial Hall.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. There will be no evening service this week.

March 30 Lenten service will be at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley with hymn sing at 7:15 p.m. and service at 7:30 p.m.

St. Peter’s West Penn

March 27: 9 a.m. worship service; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; 10:30 a.m. board meeting; 4 p.m. Confirmation Class; 6 p.m. Girl Scouts; filling orders due. March 28: 7 p.m. Play practice. April 3: 9 a.m. worship service, celebration of Holy Communion; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; 10:30 a.m. Helping Hands meeting; 2 p.m. worship service at Coaldale (fifth floor); 4 p.m. Confirmation Class; 6 p.m. Girl Scouts.

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met on March 22 with 46 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “An Irish Blessing.”

Cindy Godenis donated a shamrock St. Patty’s arrangement that was won by Jayne McLaughlin. Stephanie Gerhart made a cake that was raffled and won by Beverly Barron.

Birthdays celebrated in January included: Doris Yeager. February: Norma Lee Burke, Alice Tite, Eleanor Schmerfeld, Mary Reed, Ruth Betz, Nancy Hess, Tillie Kachmar and Nancy Messerschmidt. March: Larry Bower, Patty Fredericks, Pat Tracey. The next meeting will be held on April 12 and will include the election of officers. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Christ U.C.C. Barnesville at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Bus trip

Itching for spring blooms and learning about native flowers? Join the South Schuylkill Garden Club on its May 5 bus trip to Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in Bucks County. Bowman’s features over 700 native plant species and provides knowledgeable guides on a morning tour, rain or shine. Lunch is unassisted at New Hope, known for its restaurants and shopping. The final stop is at Paxson Hill Farm Nursery to shop or for a nominal fee, enjoy a self-guided tour of any of the eight specialized gardens. The bus departs Giant in Cressona at 7:15 a.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $60; checks are payable to South Schuylkill Garden Club and mailed to Carol Haldeman at 105 Beuchler Lane, Pine Grove, PA 17963. American Primitive

Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua. There will be no Sunday school until further notice. Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St.
