Local roundup: Results from March 25

The Lehighton baseball and Northwestern boys lacrosse teams opened the season with victories on Friday.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Pen Argyl

Lehighton jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 11-3 non-league victory over Pen Argyl.

The Indians pushed across eight runs in the first inning to give new head coach J.C. Dietz a win in the team’s season opener.

Ian Rarick, Adam Bastone and Jon Light each collected two hits for the winners, with one of Bastone’s hits a double. Rarick scored two runs and knocked in one, while Bastone crossed home once and knocked in one.

Carter Birnbaum earned the pitching win, tossing five innings. He allowed three hits and three walks, while striking out six. He also helped his own with a hit, run and three RBIs. Aiden Rarick contributed a hit, three runs and two RBIs, with T. Semsinger adding a hit and rwo ribbies.

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Two runs in the top of the sixth inning lifted Southern Lehigh to a 6-4 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Luke Lea was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Spartans (1-0). Lea also scattered five hits across five innings, allowing four runs and striking out six. Patrick Laughlin also collected two hits with a double. Janssen Brown also had two hits.

Chase Reph was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Blue Bombers (0-1). Kaleb Eitner and Cole Serfass also had RBIs for Palmerton.

SOFTBALL

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh cruised to a 10-0 Colonial League win in five innings against Palmerton.

Mikela Benner struck out 12 and allowed two hits while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Chloe Benner and Lila Padden both added two hits apiece for the Spartans (1-0).

Kaylee Strohl had a double for the Bombers (0-1). Madalynn Moyer also had a hit for Palmerton.

BOYS LACROSSE

Beth. Catholic-Northwestern

Andrew Sabo and Austin Sosnovik scored four goals apiece and Northwestern rolled to a 14-0 non-league win over Bethlehem Catholic.

Sabo also had two assists, whole Sosnovik added two. Cade Christopher scored three goals for the Tigers (1-0), who also got a goal and five assists from Andrew Collins, and contributions from Stone Sosnovik (goal, two assists), Blaine Snyder (goal), Devon Hildebrand (assists), Ty Meck (assist) and Bailen Smargiassi (one save).

Freedom-Pleasant Valley

Freedom rolled to a 17-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Karabinus had five goals and two assists for the Patriots (1-0), while Bevan scored four times and had four assists. Hume added four goals, and Ballerini scored three times and had an assist. Scotto made six saves in the win.

Ryan Blass had two goals for the Bears (0-1). Colden Rother added a goal and an assist, while Austin Kaiser also scored and Joey Brustein finished with an assist.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Freedom

Freedom edged Pleasant Valley for a 6-5 win in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

P. Teletovich had three goals for the Patriots (1-0) in a contest that was tied 4-4 at the half. K. Wheeler added two goals, while K. Turpening tallied a goal and two assists. A. Okeefe made 10 saves in the win, and P. Jenkens registered a pair of assists.

Alexandra Bush had four goals for the Bears (0-1), while Devon Bush scored and finished with two assists. Abygail Borger finished with eight saves.

Pleasant Valley won the JV contest 11-1.

TENNIS

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

Lehighton’s Aaron Miller posted a win at No. 1 singles, but Blue Mountain ended up with a 4-1 victory.

Miller won in straight sets, but the Eagles captured the other two singles matches and swept doubles play.

The loss dropped the Indians to 1-1, while Blue Mountain improved to 3-3.

Salisbury posted a 4-1 win over Palmerton in Colonial League action.

The Falcons improve to 3-1 with the win.

Tyler Hager and Tyler Shollenberger posted a win at No. 1 doubles for the Bombers (0-2).

Schuylkill Valley swept singles’ play en route to a 5-2 win over Jim Thorpe.

Brendan McDermott and Jayden Chambers earned a win at No. 1 doubles for the Olympians (1-4), while Haven Johnson and Evan Rosenbrook won at No. 2 doubles.
