Carbon man given state prison term in drug dealing case

A Carbon County man, currently serving a state prison term on drug-related charges, was sentenced to another state term after pleading guilty on Monday in the county court to another drug count.

Troy Michael Fairchild, 49, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of criminal use of a communication facility, a felony 3, before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Fairchild was arrested on Sept. 27, 2020, by Lehighton police and county drug task force members as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of illegal substances in the county.

Investigators learned that Fairchild was securing drugs for sale in the county and had him under surveillance. He was then stopped and taken into custody after he arranged a drug sale using his cellphone with an undercover officer.

Fairchild is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Laurel Highlands, Somerset, Somerset County. He told the court he was eligible for parole in that case after he was sentenced in the instant case.

Serfass sentenced him to serve 12 to 36 months in a state prison and ordered he render 100 hours of community service when paroled, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and pay court costs of over $1,000. He was given credit for five days already served.

The term runs concurrent with his present sentence.
