Schuylkill driver faces charges after chase

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges after leading police on a high-speed chase.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident began at 7:12 p.m. on March 3 in the 1200 block of Long Run Road in Wayne Township. Troopers attempted to stop a Ford F250 truck for speeding. The driver did not stop and a high-speed pursuit continued through Wayne, Washington and Pine Grove townships and lasted about 20 minutes. The driver attempted to evade officers by going off-road several times, causing property damages.

The driver eventually stopped and was identified as Joseph Wenrich, 22, of Pine Grove. He was taken into custody without incident. He was also found to be in possession of a firearm unlawfully.

Wenrich was charged with 12 counts including felony 3 fleeing or attempting to elude police; misdemeanor 2 counts of criminal mischief-damage to property and recklessly endangering another person; ungraded count of carrying a loaded gun; and eight summary motor vehicle code violations.

He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison unable to post 10 percent of $20,000 bail. However, he has since posted bail and been released from custody.
