Lasagna dinner

Effort UMC is taking preorders for a fundraising lasagna dinner which will be takeout only and held on March 19. Pickup will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. The meal includes: lasagna, salad, garlic bread and a dessert. This year the church is selling dinners individually (single serving). For cost and to choose whether one wants the meal(s) cold or hot, and cost, call the church at 570-629-1890 or visit the church’s welcome center when staff is present.

The order deadline is Monday.

Meeting tonight

The Eldred Township Planning Commission will be discussing a proposed fireworks ordinance at its meeting tonight. Any comments or concerns may be addressed to the township secretary, Ann Velopolcek, at 610-381-4252, ext. 2.

Auxiliary meets

West End Memorial American Legion 927 Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. today at the post home in Gilbert. Guests are welcome.

Pizza orders

McMichaels UMC is holding a pizza sale. Order are due Thursday by calling M. Stout at 570-992-6742. Pickup will be March 19 before noon at the church.

PV outreach

The Pleasant Valley School District is collecting individually wrapped candy and trinkets to help the West End Food Pantry make over 250 Easter baskets. Donations can be dropped off at any school’s main office through March 18.

Polk meeting

A general meeting at the township center is on the Polk Township calendar for 8 a.m. Thursday.

PVEN Board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Board of Directors is slated to meet at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Art classes

Art classes with artist Jean Perry will begin on Thursday. Irish blessing/St. Brigit’s Blessing, a colored pencil and Celtic design.

The class is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There is a fee.

Lions meeting

The Western Pocono Lions Club will be having its monthly dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Primetimers meet

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church’s Primetimers will be meeting at noon Friday for fellowship and to focus on March being Wellness Month. In addition, the group of 50 of older will also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.

They have been asked to bring a covered dish.

St. Patty’s craft

West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a free St. Patty’s crafting event this Friday at Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Drop in from 5 to 7 p.m. to make a kids’ craft, a pot of gold with rainbow chain. This will also be available as a take-home craft while supplies last. Parents are kindly asked to stay and supervise their children.

Fish dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold its next Lenten fish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. It is being sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Available will be fish and chips for one cost and a fresh fish dinner which includes soup, salad, dessert and beverage for another cost.

Donation breakfast

McMichaels UMC will hold a donation-only breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The pantry is seeking donations of spaghettios, tuna, ravioli and chicken, etc.

Also being accepted are the free turkey or ham donations available from certain stores when reaching a milestone in shopping. At this time the pantry is not asking for purchased donations.
