2022 primary election: Rep. Ryan Mackenzie announces state House re-election bid
State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a 2012 special election, announced that he will be running for re-election in the upcoming Republican primary.
Barring court changes to the recently passed state legislative maps, Mackenzie will be running in the “new” 187th House District - a Democratic gerrymander that will force two sitting Republicans to face one another in the primary.
“I look forward to bringing my proven record of conservative accomplishment before the voters and making the case to once again earn their support,” said Mackenzie. “My pledge will be as it has always been: to be an effective legislator committed to limited government, free enterprise, and protection of the public’s Constitutional Rights and freedoms.”
Mackenzie was first elected to the state House in a 2012 Special Election in the 134th District. Since then, he has been overwhelmingly re-elected by the people of his community in each election.
Known as a champion for conservative issues in Harrisburg, Mackenzie has been a leader in fighting Gov. Wolf’s liberal agenda and, especially over the past two years, his overreach throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, be it business closures or the bastardization of Pennsylvania’s election laws.
Mackenzie stated that he would continue to focus on the core issues he says constituents tell him they are most concerned with: fiscal discipline, improving education, economic and job growth, public safety, and election integrity.
“I am proud of the things I have accomplished in Harrisburg but I know there is more to be done.”
Mackenzie also said he would continue to focus on government reform - an issue he has taken a personal lead on since first arriving in the state Legislature.
“I made a pledge to lead by example on reform and that is what I have done by personally refusing the per diems and perks, by successfully fighting to reform our pension system and make government spending more open and transparent than ever before, and by working to reduce the size of the Legislature,” Mackenzie explained.
