Fencing replaced at Little League field

Fencing has been replaced at a Little League field in Palmerton.

Borough Manager Donna McGarry said Thursday that the fencing has been restored at the Elmer Valo Field on South Third Street.

McGarry thanked both St. Luke’s University Health Network, along with Country Harvest Family Market in Palmerton.

After the meeting, McGarry noted the cost to replace the fencing was $11,200, and added the contributions from both covered the entire cost.

Formerly known as the Third Street Field, borough council in 2016 renamed the field as the Elmer Valo Field in honor of Valo’s long, storied professional baseball career.

Born in 1927 in Rybnik, Czechoslovakia, Valo was raised just feet from the present field.
