Carbon County court

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a prison term on Monday after pleading guilty to trespass and conduct charges.

He was one of 11 defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Palmerton incident

Andrew Jason Tyahla Sr., 52, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve six to 12 months on a charge of defiant trespass and 5½ to 11 months on a persistent disorderly conduct charge, with the terms running consecutively. A charge of terroristic threats was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

Tyahla was arrested on March 20, 2021, when Palmerton police were dispatched to the West End Saloon along Mauch Chunk Road for a report of a disturbance. On scene officers were told that Tyahla had caused problems in the business and refused to leave.

It was noted that Tyahla has an extensive criminal record with pending cases in Schuylkill County. He is currently an inmate in the Carbon prison.

He was also ordered to render a total of 50 hours of community service when paroled and get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

He was given credit for 180 days served on the trespass count and 64 days on the conduct charge.

Two cases

Richard Edward Fasching III, 19, of Palmerton, entered guilty pleas in two pending cases to one count each of criminal mischief and resisting arrest for an incident on May 27, 2021; and false identification to law enforcement for an incident on July 28, 2021.

He was arrested for the mischief and resisting charges by Palmerton police for his part in the theft of a 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. In that case felony 3 counts of theft and receiving stolen property were dropped in a plea deal.

The false ID occurred at the laundromat along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. Police went to the business looking for a juvenile wanted in another case. Fasching gave them a false name when questioned. In that case a charge of obstruction of the administration of law was dropped.

He was placed on probation for a total of 18 months on all the charges and ordered to render a total of 75 hours of community service, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and make restitution in the mischief case for $250.

It was noted he has a pending case in Monroe County.

Christopher Step Ruckle, 38, of Palmerton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal conspiracy - retail theft.

He was arrested by state police at Lehighton on the drug count on Jan. 27, 2021, along Route 248 in Franklin Township following a traffic stop. He fled the vehicle but was caught following a short chase.

He was arrested on the retail theft charge for an incident at the Family Dollar Store in Palmerton on Aug. 12, 2021. He and a co-defendant were caught stealing merchandise from the store.

He was placed on probation for a year both counts, running concurrently, and ordered to make restitution of $49.50 (his share) to the store, supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and render 50 hours of community service.

It was noted he has pending charges in Columbia County.

Other pleas

Charlie Wiley, 38, an inmate in the county prison, pleaded to one count of defiant trespass.

He was arrested by Jan. 20, by Kidder Township police at the Split Rock Lodge in Lake Harmony. He was found sleeping in a room at the lodge which he had no right to be in at the time.

Wiley said he was homeless at the time and was only looking for a place to “get out of the cold.”

In a plea deal a felony 1 burglary charge was dropped and the trespass charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor from a felony 3.

Matika sentenced him to serve one day to 24 months in prison with credit for one day already served and paroled.

Wiley is facing additional charges and a parole violation petition.

Jesse Dale Krum, 29, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on June 24, 2021, along Interchange Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop for speeding, 67 mph in a 45 zone.

He was fined $150 and costs.

Blake William Tuggle, 24, of Slatington, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Dec. 22, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Franklin Township following a vehicle stop.

He was fined $150 and costs.

Joshua Ray Anderson, 29, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Aug. 7, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township, following a traffic stop.

He was fined $150 and costs.

Jose Miguel Quinones Jr., 20, of Coplay, Lehigh County, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Jan. 6, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Parryville, following a traffic stop.

He was fined $150 and costs.

Steven John Klinger, 38, of Hazle Township, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of fraud, altered or forged registration/title, a misdemeanor 1. He was arrested on July 22, 2021, by Weatherly police along Main Street following a vehicle stop.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to supply a DNA sample and render 50 hours of community service.

David M. Roberts,Felix Antonio Baez, 26, of Coaldale, pleaded to a summary motor vehicle code offense of improper wiper. He was arrested on Nov. 29, 2017, by Lansford police along Patterson Street following a vehicle stop. A drug charge was dropped in a plea deal.

He was fined $25 and costs.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on probation or parole.
