Palmerton may eventually utilize grant money to address a pair of dilapidated properties.
Borough Manager Donna McGarry reviewed plans for potential Community Development Block Grant funding with borough council on Thursday.
McGarry said the borough’s allotment of 2019-2020 CDBG money is going toward the south side of Mauch Chunk Road, while its 2021-2022 CDBG money will be for Railroad Alley.
She added there are two properties that may require action by the borough because of their dilapidated condition.
“We may be looking at using CDBG funds for this, which will be reflected in the 3-year plan being submitted to the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development,” McGarry said.
Recreation/beautification
Also last Monday, council agreed to have McGarry apply for grant funds from the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau that are available for recreation/beautification projects.
McGarry noted that the 50/50 application is due by April 30.
She then proposed two projects in the event the borough receives the funds.
McGarry said one option would be for the beautification of the entrance into the borough.
Another option, she said, is for basketball courts next to Elmer Valo Baseball Field on South Third Street.
