Troopers report 15 vehicles in I80 pileup

State police at Frackville reported that 15 vehicles were involved in a pileup along Interstate 81 in Kline Township on Saturday when an intense snow squall moved through the area, causing white-out conditions with zero visibility and resulting in ice and snow covering the interstate.

Troopers said all of the vehicles were northbound when the incident occurred at 1 p.m. There were no major injuries reported in the resulting multiple crashes.

One area driver was among the 15 involved - Doronella D. Simon, 25, of Tobyhanna, who had a 16-year-old female from Nesquehoning as a passenger. Neither were injured.

Other drivers were from various locations in Pennsylvania, as close as Tremont, West Hazleton and Sugarloaf, and from counties throughout the state including Luzerne, Montgomery, Lehigh and Lackawanna. Out-of-state drivers were from Maryland, New York, Virginia and Texas.

Emergency responders from Schuylkill and Luzerne counties assisted troopers at the scene.
