Monroe County Prison Board reorganizes

The Monroe County Prison Board reorganized this month. Commissioner John Moyer, Commissioner John Christy, and Controller Marlo Merhige resumed their service as chairman, vice chairman and secretary respectively.

Deputy Warden Philip Diliberto said the monthly water usage at the correctional facility was down. Last month it was 1,207,000 gallons and this month water usage dropped to 1,136,000 gallons.

“Manor water usage is looking good too, holding steady,” he said.

Christy asked what the capacity of the water tower was and Deputy Warden Diliberto reported it at 296,000 gallons. In 1989, the tower cost $107,000, according to Diliberto.

Prime Care reported that as of Feb. 8, the facility was COVID-free, even with continued staffing shortages.

The new Human Resources officer Deborah Thompson began on Feb. 14.

The facility currently employs 105 correctional officers, 17 officers fewer than it should normally employ. However 143 individuals were invited to participate in testing. Nineteen individuals tested. Thirteen passed, 11 candidates were interviewed and six were selected. Five decided to continue the hiring process.
